They are also striving to be the world’s first zero waste brewery. In 2000, they reported that they produce so little waste that their garbage is only collected once every 120 days! They reuse so many items that current health codes do not allow them to reuse any further materials in the bar. Waste water, waste heat, and waste CO2 are reclaimed and reused in other applications. In fact, they’ve been able to reduce water usage by 80 percent, energy usage by 40 percent, waste water generated by 95 percent, and solid waste by 90 percent versus a typical brewery. The tour will be lead by the environmental engineer who designed the plant. Leopald Brothers is located 523 S. Main St. in Ann Arbor. The tour is free, but we’ll need reservations by 10/24. Anyone wishing to stay for dinner, a little product assessment, and networking with ASM-Saginaw & Mid-Michigan SAE members is welcome. Dinner & beverages will be paid individually. Please make reservations by contacting Mark Grauf at (989)757-5392 or by email at mark.grauf@delphi.com. And no, it’s not a home football game in Ann Arbor that day.
Cost Seminar Lightweight Materials (starts February 21, 2001) Advanced Energy & Fuel Cell Technologies: Manufacturing Opportunities and Challenges Conference and Exposition[Conference Brochure] ASM is partnering with SME for an "Advanced Energy & Fuel Cell Technologies: Manufacturing Opportunities & Challenges" event on October 11-13, 2004 at the Laurel Manor in Livonia, MI. This program is unique in that it is the only event that focuses on manufacturing issues in creating alternative energy technologies and allows for a meaningful exchange between various industries (electronics, appliance, utility, automotive, aerospace, military, NASA). It also provides guidance to manufacturers on the energy management systems and techniques they can use today to reduce their energy consumption and guarantee a more reliable power source for their production needs. The event will support AET developers and researchers in many ways… - Help AET companies design their products for manufacturability.
- Alloy AET developers and researchers an opportunity to interface and connect with OEM's in several different industry markets where alternative energy systems have both short and long term applications.
- Help reducing the cost and scalability of components and reliability of AET systems so they are more commercially viable.
The program will also provide valuable direction for manufacturers in many ways… - Providing ideas to OEM's who are considering alternative energy systems as a new power source in their future product designs.
- Allowing manufacturers detailed insight on how to support the product development of alternative energy systems.
- Provide guidance to small to large contract manufacturers on how to position themselves as a supplier to this emerging technology sector that is likely to make a significant growth impact in many industries.
- Educate manufacturers on the advanced energy systems they can use today to save on energy and guarantee a more reliable source of power for their production needs.
- Provide post event one-on-one energy management consultations to all manufacturers in attendance (courtesy of DTE Energy Technologies)
In addition, several alternative energy and fuel cell exhibits will be showcased to provide a physical world connection to the classroom learning. As a partnering organization, all ASM members are entitled to receive a "partner member" discount rate for attending this unique event. You must use this link to receive the discount rate http://www.sme.org/downloads/conf/2004/aet/aet_regform.pdf
